We broke ground August 24, 2010 on a 2800 square-foot expansion on the west side of our current building. The expansion will include an Intake Center and a full-service Clinic.
At first, the clinic will serve the animals living at the shelter. The Clinic will have four exam rooms, 36 new parking spaces and state-of-the-art equipment. It will help reduce the over $110,000 the shelter pays every year on spay/neuter surgeries.
The new Intake Center will replace the building we are currently using on Calumet Avenue in Munster. Having the Adoption Center and Intake Center under one roof will simplify daily operations. The Intake Center as admitted almost 1800 animals since it opened October 1, 2009. It has also helped us reduce the spread of illness at the shelter.
Take a look at our floor plan or the outside of the clinic for more details. Also, read the article the Post Tribune printed about our expansion. Visit our photo album to see pictures from the groundbreaking.
