Behavior Counseling
We provide behavioral counseling for people that are looking to surrender their pets. Please call the Intake Center at 219-836-2583 for more information.
Obedience Classes
Classes run in six weekly sessions and generally run about 1 hour. At time of registration, a Health Certificate from your veterinarian will be required as proof of current Distemper, Parvovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations. The HSCA and Dogtopia are not responsible for any illnesses, injuries, or other damages to your pet or yourself while enrolled in obedience classes at the shelter.
The registration fee must be paid before the first class begins. Proof of registration must be presented to the instructor at the first class.
Five out of six classes must be attended in order to receive a certificate.

Dog Obedience
Tuesdays at 6:30pm, January 24 - March 6 (no class on Feb. 14)
Saturdays at 10:00am, February 11 - March 24 (no class on March 3)
This class emphasizes focus and getting behaviors to work under real-world conditions. The class covers:
- Come when called
- Sit & Down
- Stay
- Walk nicely on leash
- Wait at doors
- Solve behavior problems
