We have several volunteers that bring animals from the shelter t
o nursing homes throughout Lake County for Animal Assisted Activities (AKA Pet Therapy). Animal Assisted Activities is simply bringing animals to hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities to visit the cronically ill or elderly.
The simple, non-judgemental interaction between human and animal brings smiles and laughter to those in difficult situations, but it also has health benefits. The CDC notes that pets can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol levels, triglyceride leves, and feelings of lonliness.
