About Us

The Humane Society Calumet Area, working within a "no-kill" philosophy, provides shelter and medical treatment for unwanted and abandoned animals while finding loving adopting homes. It promotes population control along with kindness and ethical treatment through education and example.

In 2005, the HSCA adopted out over 2,000 animals and is on track to do even more this year. On any given day, the shelter houses more than 200 animals and goes through 125+ pounds of dog food.

The HSCA is not a "branch" of any national humane organization and receives no funding from any such agency. The only way the HSCA continues to run, with an operating cost of over $65,000 a month, is through the continued support from local community members.
