For over 15 years, our compassionate and comprehensive training programs have saved the lives of countless animals. More recently, we have developed new behavior modification programs for shelter dogs with a variety of behavioral concerns. To facilitate successful adoptions and help maintain animals in their homes, we provide guardians with training resources and post adoption behavioral support.
In addition to rehabilitating the animals in our care, the Humane Society Calumet Area focuses on our community's interest in developing and strengthening successful relationships between humans and their animal companions. To promote positive relationships between pets and people, we provide behavioral counseling for people that are looking to surrender their pets as well as a complete range of positive reinforcement training programs. Please join us for a fun-filled training class or call to discuss other alternatives to surrendering your pet.
Classes run in eight week sessions and generally run about 1 1/2 hours. At time of registration, a Health Certificate from your veterinarian will be required as proof of current Distemper, Parvovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations. The HSCA is not responsible for any illnesses, injuries, or other damages to your pet or yourself while enrolled in obedience classes at the shelter.
The registration fee must be paid before the first class begins. Proof of registration must be presented to the instructor at the first class.
Six out of eight classes must be attended in order to receive a certificate. A training collar and 4 ft. lead will be required (nylon or leather-no chain). Instructor will discuss types of training collars at the first class. (Collars and leads are available at the HSCA at competitive prices). Owners must bring soft treats to each class to aid in positive motivational training.
